Opera GX announced the new Playground area, making the browser experience more flexible and more personal. This completely optional section allows users to shape their internet experience with different tools. The new structure includes features that focus on both humorous and practical usage scenarios. Opera GX, the company’s gaming-oriented browser, has long stood out with its performance control, system resource management and comprehensive customization options.
Playground takes this approach to a different point. This new section, presented in a separate area without changing the basic experience of the browser, turns jokes born from internet culture into functional tools. What features does Opera GX Playground come with? Opera GX’s new Playground area consists of a set of tools that users can access through a single central section. The company positions this area as an experimental area that makes the browser more fun while also responding to real user behavior.
Every feature here works optionally and the user can access it via the settings menu if desired. One of these innovations is offered under the name Grass Touching Corner. This feature, which works as a small and interactive piece of grass placed in the lower right corner of the browser window, brings the frequently used joke on the internet, Go touch the grass, directly into the browser. Without actually stepping away from the computer, users can click on this little piece of grass in the browser and experience an interaction that responds to the internet prank in question.
The feature works like a light leisure game and turns a familiar internet joke into a tangible experience. Another tool in the Playground is the Panic Button. This feature allows you to instantly hide open tabs via a designated hotkey. It can simultaneously pause content, mute the sound, and switch the user to a pre-selected secure website. This system, developed especially for moments when the content on the screen needs to be stored quickly, focuses on making the transition unobtrusive.
However, the company clearly states that the Panic Button may not always produce perfect results. In some cases, the feature may behave unexpectedly and redirect the user to another page that may seem suspicious. Another innovation is offered under the name Fake My History. This feature offers a structure that replaces searches that may seem suspicious or strange in users’ browsing history with more innocent or productive content, instead of directly deleting them.
According to the examples given by the company, this transformation may include recordings such as study sessions, volunteer activities and, from time to time, cat videos. When the feature is activated, the history is automatically rearranged after 14 days of browsing inactivity. In his evaluation of the new feature, Opera GX Product Director Maciej Kocemba says that some tools solve open problems, while others respond to the behaviors expressed jokingly by users.
According to Kocemba, Playground is an experimental area created for this second category. The company states that there is real user behavior behind these seemingly humor-based ideas, and therefore it offers these features in a separate area without complicating the main experience. Playground is currently available to Opera GX users on Windows, Mac and Linux versions. Users can access this section from the browser’s settings menu.
Those who want to use the latest version of Opera GX can access these new features by updating or re-downloading the browser.
