Sony is moving into a new era when it comes to bringing major single-player games from PlayStation Studios to the PC. In the internal briefing given to employees by Hermen Hulst, the company’s game studios manager, it was stated that story-oriented single-player productions will remain exclusive to PlayStation consoles from now on. PlayStation exclusive games are becoming console-centric again. This decision of Sony means a significant turnaround in the PC expansion that the company has followed in recent years.
PlayStation side: God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon, The Last of Us, Returnal, Ratchet as of 2020 This decision makes the strong single-player games of the PlayStation brand again the main privilege of the console ecosystem. This change does not cover all PlayStation games. PC support continues for multiplayer and online-oriented productions. Games such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls are expected to be published on more than one platform.
Sony’s move on the PC side attracted strong interest in the first years. However, it is reported that some ports have not given the expected commercial performance recently, and therefore the company has moved to a line that keeps PlayStation consoles at the center again. The most striking aspect of the decision is that Sony drew its PC policy, which had drifted in different directions in a few years, to a clearer line.
For a while, the company reached a new player base by porting its games to PC years later. Now, the same model is being reshaped around preserving the value of the PlayStation console. For this reason, expectations have changed as to whether major single-player productions such as Marvel’s Wolverine, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and similar will come to PC.
