Summary in 10 Seconds: The production of Audi Q2 in Ingolstadt ends in April. The production of Audi A1 in Martorell, Spain has also entered the closing process. A1 reached a total of 1,389,658 deliveries and Q2 reached 887,231 units. The brand’s new entry-level model will be the electric A2 e-tron, which will be introduced in the autumn of 2026. The end of the road has come for the A1 and Q2, which have long been seen as the gateway to Audi’s product range.
The brand’s small-class hatchback model and compact SUV will not continue with the new generation. This decision shows that Audi has changed its focus in the lower segment from affordable internal combustion models to the electric entry level. The vacant space will be filled by the fully electric A2 e-tron, which will hit the scene in the fall of 2026. Audi’s entry level is now turning electric. In Audi’s latest statement regarding its production network, it became clear that the production of Q2 at the Ingolstadt facility will end in April.
Q2, which has been sold as the brand’s smallest SUV model since 2016, had an important place in the product range, especially for users who wanted a car with a compact size but a high premium perception. The total delivery quantity of the model was announced as 887,231. There is a similar closure on the A1 side. The small-class Audi, which started its journey in 2010, is being withdrawn from production at the Martorell facility in Spain.
The total delivery figure achieved by A1 to date is 1,389,658 units. Audi states that the two models are particularly popular in markets such as Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy. The definition of affordable Audi is changing. The A1 and Q2 have long been among the lowest-priced entry points to the brand for users who want to own an Audi. Therefore, the decision does not only mean the discontinuation of two models, but also the definition of the starting model in Audi’s product range.
The brand will not fill this gap with a new internal combustion A1 or Q2. Instead, the fully electric A2 e-tron will come into play. Audi positions the A2 e-tron as the new fully electric entry-level model family in the compact class. The world premiere of the model will be held in the autumn of 2026 and production will take place at the Ingolstadt facility in Germany. The A2 name returns after many years. The A2 name is not new for Audi.
The original Audi A2 was produced between 1999 and 2005 and was one of the brand’s most distinctive models with its lightweight structure, high efficiency focus and unusual body form. The new A2 e-tron will carry this name into the electric era. Audi has not yet shared critical technical details of the model, such as battery capacity, range, engine options, price and equipment packages. The table that is finalized for now is; The model will be in the compact class, will be fully electric, will be introduced in the autumn of 2026 and will be produced in Ingolstadt.
The production balance is also changing in Ingolstadt. The transformation at Audi’s Ingolstadt facility is not limited to the A2 e-tron. With Q2 out of production, a new production order for Q3 is being established at the facility. Audi Q3 production will start in mid-2026, integrated with Audi Hungaria’s Győr facilities. The bodies will be produced in Hungary, and painting and assembly will be done in Ingolstadt. A3 and Q3 production as internal combustion compact models will continue at the Ingolstadt facility.
On the electric side, after the Q6 e-tron and A6 e-tron, the new A2 e-tron will expand the facility’s electric model family.
