MUĞLA (AA) – “20th Region UMKE Camp and Exercise”, which is included in the activity plan of the Ministry of Health’s National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) in Muğla, was organized with the participation of 130 personnel from 4 provinces. In the drill in Bozüyük District of Yatağan District, in which UMKE personnel from Aydın, Muğla, Denizli and Uşak took part, the scenario of a mass traffic accident was practically simulated.
In the exercise, which was carried out by taking the necessary precautions, first aid was given to the injured people trapped in the vehicles that crashed as per the scenario, and the necessary interventions were also made in the mobile hospital established in the region. Gendarmerie teams also supported the exercise. Muğla Provincial Health Director Eriş Başaran Akça, who watched the drill, told journalists that the drill was carried out with the aim of improving the preparedness capacity for disasters and emergencies, strengthening inter-institutional coordination and increasing the operational skills of UMKE personnel.
Stating that a mass traffic accident was intervened within the scope of the scenario, Akça pointed out that bus accidents and multiple traffic accidents can occur, especially in tourism regions. Stating that Muğla is a strategic city with two airports, Akça said, “There are thermal power plants in our city. We are also in the first degree earthquake zone. Forest fires are among the important risks of our region. For this reason, in addition to our 112 Emergency Health teams, our UMKE teams are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, especially during the summer season.” he said.
Explaining that a possible mass traffic accident intervention scenario was implemented in the exercise, Akça said: “We have 14 injured people in the scenario. Among the injured, there are children and babies as well as adults. We are trying to simulate all the different situations that may occur. All of our personnel received the necessary training before the exercise. Our tents have been set up, our teams are experienced and equipped in their fields.
I believe it will be a nice and useful exercise. Of course, we hope that no negativities will occur.
