WhatsApp has launched the new feature in the iOS beta version, which allows iPhone users to send documents directly to the Meta AI chat. The feature, seen in the WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.20.10.72 version distributed via TestFlight, allows users to share PDF and similar files with Meta AI.
Document sharing for Meta AI is being tested on WhatsApp
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that makes Meta AI integration more comprehensive on the iPhone side. With the new feature, users can send the file directly to Meta AI by selecting a document from the attachment menu in the chat. In this way, it becomes possible to ask questions about the content of the document, have the texts in the file analyzed, or get answers based on certain topics in a document.

Meta AI’s file support within WhatsApp has been more limited until now. Users could upload photos from their iPhone gallery or take a new photo in the chat and send it to Meta AI. There was already support for asking questions about content through photos. However, the option to send files such as PDF, table or long document directly to Meta AI in the chat was not available on iOS.
According to the information shared by WABetaInfo, document sharing has been opened to some beta users who installed WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.20.10.72. The feature appears in the beta version distributed via TestFlight. WhatsApp will expand access to more users in the coming weeks. A limited number of users can also test this feature through the stable version in the App Store.
The new option is located in the attachment menu in the chat. Users can select a document from this section and send the file to the Meta AI chat. Thus, there is no need to copy and paste long texts, take screenshots or manually describe the document content.
With document sharing, Meta AI can examine the sent file in its context. Users can ask questions about chapters in a PDF, get a summary of a long text, or request a step-by-step answer to a problem in the file. WABetaInfo states that this use ensures more accurate and relevant answers, especially through the document.
Support for sending documents to Meta AI had previously started to be tested in the Android beta version of WhatsApp. With the latest TestFlight update on the iOS side, the same feature has been transferred to iPhone users. Thus, WhatsApp is gradually expanding the document-based use of Meta AI on both major mobile platforms.
Meta AI had a more limited use case for document support than rival assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini. In other artificial intelligence tools, users can upload documents and work directly on the file content. New document sharing within WhatsApp allows Meta AI to analyze files without leaving the chat screen.
It is not yet clear when the feature will be available to all users. As with many of WhatsApp’s innovations in the beta process, distribution is gradual. For now, on supported accounts, the feature works similar to the document sharing flow within the chat, and files can be added directly to the Meta AI conversation.
