TBILISI (AA) – The 108th anniversary of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which was declared on May 28, 1918, was celebrated in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. A reception was held by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tbilisi at a hotel in Tbilisi on the occasion of the 108th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The program hosted by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Tbilisi, Faik Guliyev, was attended by Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, Georgia’s Adjara Autonomous Republic Government President Zurab Pataradze, Turkey’s Tbilisi Ambassador Mustafa Türker Arı, ministers, members of parliament and many guests.
Speaking at the program, which started with the playing of the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Georgia, Ambassador Faik Guliyev said that he was pleased to celebrate this day in Tbilisi. Guliyev stated that the independence of Azerbaijan was declared in Tbilisi on May 28, 1918, and that the Azerbaijani people showed to the whole world that they wanted to be free and independent at that time. Ambassador Guliyev used the following statements in his speech: “The Azerbaijani state is the magnificent embodiment of the political genius and endless love of the homeland of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.
This political line is successfully continued today by the President of Azerbaijan, the victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. Ensuring our territorial integrity, which has been the desire of the Azerbaijani people for decades, was implemented under the leadership of President Aliyev. “Our people achieved historical justice, took back their national pride and declared to the world once again that they would not accept the occupation.” Stating that celebrations will be held tomorrow on the occasion of the 108th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Georgia, Guliyev noted that Azerbaijani President Aliyev sent a congratulatory letter to the Georgian government.
– “We support peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus” Speaking at the program, Georgian Parliament Speaker Papuashvili congratulated the 108th anniversary of the establishment of the republic of Azerbaijan. Emphasizing that the relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan are developing dynamically in every field, Papuashvili said, “We agree that every country has the right to determine its own future, protect its national identity and act in line with its national interests.
“Relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan are an example of this.” he said. Papuashvili noted that they support the establishment of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia and said, “Georgia has always supported peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus region, and we will continue to work in this direction together with our neighboring states in the future.” he said. At the reception, where a short promotional film about Azerbaijan was shown, guests were served delicacies from Azerbaijani cuisine.
