ZONGULDAK (AA) – Gökgöl Cave, which stands out with its natural beauties and geological riches in Zonguldak, hosted 5 thousand 884 visitors on the eve and during Eid al-Adha.

Located close to the city center, the cave attracts the attention of visitors with its rich geological structure consisting of stalactites, stalagmites, columns and travertines, as well as walking areas integrated with nature. The cave, which serves with its 875-meter section open to tourism, can be visited with its walking axis, glass bridges and observation terrace, which can be progressed without losing contact with the environment.

Information panels at the entrance also provide visitors with information about the formation and features of the cave. The history of Gökgöl Cave, which is the 10th longest cave in Türkiye and the second largest cave in Zonguldak with a length of approximately 3 thousand 350 meters, dates back to the Carboniferous period. The water in the underground stream passing through the cave, which is approximately 350 million years old, reaches Erçek Stream through a natural siphon.

In the cave, which is very rich in dripstone formations, the sections extending from the entrance to the large collapse hall are called Fossil Entrance, Asthma Hall, Wonders Hall and Miracles Hall. Gökgöl Cave, which has attracted attention in terms of health and lifestyle tourism, especially due to the information that the cave atmosphere is good for asthma patients, was visited by 757 people on the eve of Eid al-Adha, 680 on the first day of Eid al-Adha, 1509 on the second day, 1446 on the third day and 1492 on the fourth day.

65-year-old retired officer Ali Gürsel Ovalı, who came from Istanbul to visit the cave, told reporters that they came to the city to see the natural beauties in the Western Black Sea Region. Ovalı stated that they liked Gökgöl Cave very much and said, “It was the most beautiful cave I have ever seen.” It was a cave with a river flowing inside, very original, with stalactites and stalagmites, which I liked very much. If we pass by, I will come again.

A friend of mine from Zonguldak said, ‘If you are going to Zonguldak, do not return without seeing it.’ he said. That’s why I came. he said.
