ISTANBUL (AA) – Families of martyrs in Istanbul came to Edirnekapı Martyrs' Cemetery and visited the graves on the eve of Eid al-Adha.

ISTANBUL (AA) – Families of martyrs in Istanbul came to Edirnekapı Martyrs’ Cemetery and visited the graves on the eve of Eid al-Adha. Relatives of the martyrs started to come to Edirnekapı Martyrs’ Cemetery from the early hours of the morning on the eve of the day. Relatives of the martyrs prayed and read the Quran at the graves, left Turkish flags and carnations on the graves, and planted flowers. Families also cleaned and maintained the graves.

Children who came to the cemetery with their elders also prayed for their martyred relatives. Gülizar Doğrukartal, the aunt of Ercan Doğrukartal, who was martyred in 2011 as a result of a mine explosion in Hakkari Şemdinli, said that every holiday is bittersweet, that they visit her nephew’s grave every holiday and that all the martyrs are their own children. Emine Koç, the mother of Enes Koç, who was martyred in Şanlıurfa in 2022, stated that she used to count the days and now stopped counting how many holidays and how many eves.

Stating that his son became a martyr at the age of 19, that the Eid has always been bittersweet, and that it will continue the same way until he dies, Koç said that no matter what he says, he cannot relieve his longing and longing. – “We cannot experience the holiday like previous holidays.” Nusen Yiğit, the mother of Halil İbrahim Yiğit, who was martyred in the Claw-Lock Operation region in 2022, stated that they come to her son’s grave every holiday.

Yiğit said, “My heart and soul is with him, the holiday is very emotional and sad for us. We cannot experience the holiday like the previous holidays. While we are waiting for him to come on leave, kiss our hands and celebrate the holiday together, I come to him. We are celebrating here.” he said. Grave visits continue at the martyrs’ cemetery, where some foundations and associations provide refreshments to the families of the martyrs.
