AYDIN (AA) – A balloon was released into the sky for 30-year-old Gizem Demir, who beat leukemia in Kuşadası district of Aydın. Demir caught leukemia after graduating from Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2022. Demir, who could not start his career due to his illness, regained his health after approximately 2 years of treatment and a suitable donor was found. An event was held for Demir at İsmail Cem Peace and Friendship Square in Kuşadası, where his family lives.
Here, Demir released a balloon into the sky with the participation of his relatives and friends. Making a statement to journalists, Demir said that he could not find a suitable donor from his family and that he had a bone marrow transplant from someone else a year ago. Thanking everyone who supported him, Demir said, “I would like to say that I have many friends who are still waiting for bone marrow. By giving only 3 tubes of blood to the Red Crescent, it becomes clear whether you are a suitable donor or not.
This is a very easy way to save a life. I hope my other friends who are waiting for bone marrow will regain their health like me.” he said.
