BİLECİK (AA) – Citizens gathered in the village square in Cumalı village of Bilecik center and continued the tradition of mass celebration. In the village, 25 kilometers away from the center, after the Eid prayer, the elders celebrated among themselves, starting from the oldest person in the village, as a tradition that has been going on for centuries. Later, candy and money were distributed to the children waiting with bags in their hands in the village square.
Selim Yağcı, the 27th Term AK Party Deputy of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey from Cumalı village, told the AA correspondent that this tradition in the village has been going on for centuries. Explaining that they come together and celebrate Eid after the Eid prayer, Yağcı continued: “On this occasion, there are no resentments left and everyone encourages this. Then our children form a circle with their mothers and the adults give their gifts.
We have been doing this with pleasure for years. We experienced this in our own childhood. Our children experienced it. Now, we live our tradition with our grandchildren, keep it alive and share the Eid morning together. After making our children’s day happy, we gather together at the cemetery to pray for mercy on our past.” Eid days are our days of unity, solidarity and brotherhood. I hope our days will continue like this.” Village headman Mesut Tekin also said that the village population increased from 100 to 1500 during religious holidays with the arrival of people living abroad.
Stating that the village has a 700-year history, Tekin said, “Our village experiences a different beauty during religious holidays. “Wherever we have a villager in Turkey, they will definitely participate in this tradition with their children and grandchildren.” he said.
