AFYONKARAHİSAR (AA) – CANAN TÜKELAY – Afyon Kocatepe University (AKU) Faculty of Fine Arts students contribute to the survival of traditional arts by designing ornaments that depict the local tastes of the city using felt techniques. 23 students studying at AKÜ Faculty of Fine Arts are making ornaments inspired by the flavors of the city using felt as part of their term project. Decorative works prepared by students, who reflect many flavors identified with the city, especially Turkish delight, clotted cream and sausage, using the stamping felt and needle felting techniques, are presented to art lovers in exhibitions opened at different times.
AKÜ Fine Arts Faculty Traditional Turkish Arts Department Lecturer Assoc. Stating that there are many felt masters in Afyonkarahisar, Küçükkurt said: “We adapted the dishes to felt. We wanted to do something in this way, we wanted to raise awareness. The dishes of Afyonkarahisar are all very beautiful and very enjoyable to consume.” Open-mouthed and twisted dishes are among the leading pastries.
Afyon kebab and clotted cream are among the most well-known delicacies, too many to list. Afyonkarahisar’s gastronomy is truly rich. In this context, the food-like felt work we prepared also attracted attention and interest.” – “It is very nice to work with felt.” Murat Bedeşli, one of the students, also noted that their work received more attention than they expected. Explaining that he chose this department because he loves art, Bedeşli said, “We had fun making felt food figures.” he said.
