GİRESUN (AA) – Giresun Governor Mustafa Koç, regarding the accident that occurred on May 23, in which 5 people from the same family died and 6 people were injured, said, “It happened as a result of a vehicle coming from behind hitting a vehicle stopped at a red light, probably while the driver was sleeping.” he said. Koç visited the gendarmerie in Erikliman location and the police enforcement points in Aksu location and chatted with the drivers and passengers of the vehicles stopped during the inspections.
Asking the drivers to obey the rules, Koç also gave gifts to the children. Koç told journalists at the application point in Aksu that they were working to ensure that citizens could have a peaceful holiday. Stating that inspections will continue at 90 application points with approximately 1500 personnel during the holiday, Koç stated that they have taken various measures to ensure that those who come to their hometown for the holiday can return home without any accidents or trouble.
Governor Koç, on the question of whether additional precautions will be taken in the Giresun Port location of the Black Sea Coastal Road, where the accident occurred when a truck hit two cars and 5 people lost their lives, said: You have also seen the footage of the accident. It happened as a result of a vehicle coming from behind hitting a vehicle stopped at a red light, probably while the driver was asleep. But hopefully in the coming periods, together with our police, our municipality, our highways and our responsible institutions, we do not think that there is a deficiency, we do not evaluate it, but we will definitely work to re-evaluate and improve the accidents that have occurred, or to do something if there is something that needs to be done.
