NİĞDE (AA) – AHMET DEMİRCAN – Niğde Municipality will meet its electricity from solar power plant (SPP) and wind energy system (RES) and its heating needs with hydrogen combi boiler system. With the project, the building’s own energy will be produced and stored with a rooftop solar power plant with a peak power of 200 kilowatts (kWp) and two wind energy systems installed on the roof. The aim is to eliminate fossil fuel dependency with the hydrogen combi boiler system, which is stated to be used for the first time in a municipality building in Turkey.
Thanks to the system, it is aimed for the municipality to save approximately 2 million lira annually and to transform the service building into an independent structure operating with zero carbon emissions. Niğde Mayor Emrah Özdemir told the AA correspondent that they care about green energy and that they have implemented an important project with the understanding of environmentally friendly municipality. Expressing that they want to be an exemplary municipality, Özdemir stated that they have taken important steps in this direction.
Özdemir recently emphasized that it is important to leave a zero carbon footprint with renewable energy. Explaining that they are taking initiatives for renewable energy, Özdemir said: “We have a wind energy system with a 200 kilowatt solar power plant and panels on our roof. With this 200 kilowatts, we will provide our municipality’s electricity from renewable and wind energy. We did not only use solar and wind energy plants, we wanted to do an exemplary job for the public and we heat our municipality with hydrogen with the hydrogen combi boilers we installed.
Just as we meet our electricity needs as a municipality, we also meet our heating needs. “We almost no longer need natural gas, and we heat our municipality with the hydrogen we obtain from water.” – “We attach great importance to being sustainable” Özdemir pointed out that the project is economical and was implemented with an environmentally friendly approach. Emphasizing that they do not harm the environment and even protect it, Özdemir said, “We are leaving a good legacy to the next generations.
In addition, we set an example for the public and private sectors and provide consultancy to them. It also makes a great contribution in economic terms. We will save at least 2 million lira annually from the Solar Power Plant and Wind Power Plant we have established.” Niğde Municipality will never be left without electricity in case of earthquake or other disasters. We attach great importance to sustainability. We have advanced biological treatment and we supply all or even more of the electricity needs of our treatment from solar energy.
“Hopefully we will increase the number of these soon, our applications continue.” he said. Özdemir stated that solar energy is used in different enterprises affiliated to the municipality and that they will evaluate the income obtained from SPPs. Stating that the income generated will be put at the service of citizens, Özdemir said, “Niğde Municipality is one of the exemplary municipalities in Turkey with the financial discipline it provides.
We owe our financial discipline and being a debt-free municipality to such savings. We have prioritized savings since the first day I took office. “With the savings and smart investments we make, we are a municipality that has no debts or interest expenses, and uses all the incoming money to serve the citizens.” he said.
