VAN (AA) – Due to the heavy snow and showers in Van’s Muradiye district this year, the flowing time of Yaşar Kemal Waterfall has been extended. The flow rate of the waterfall, which is located in Muradiye Canyon, 10 kilometers away from the district, and which previously flowed only during certain periods of the year, increased with this year’s rainfall. The waterfall, which flows from meters-high rocks and creates a visual feast, attracts the attention of nature lovers.
Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, Faculty of Fisheries, Dr. Lecturer Member Mustafa Akkuş told the AA correspondent that with the rains in the Van Lake Basin this year, the flow rate of the rivers increased and many waterfalls came to life again. Stating that Yaşar Kemal Waterfall used to flow only in April, Akkuş said, “This year it rained a lot. We are at the end of May and will enter June. The waterfall has been actively flowing for about 3 months.
The waterfalls, which flow only 1 or 2 months a year due to heavy rains, now continue to flow for 3 to 4 months and offer a visual feast. When water is abundant, nature displays all its beauty.” he said.
