NEVŞEHİR (AA) – The pilot and passenger of the microlight (light aircraft with a motor) that made an emergency landing in an open field in Nevşehir due to engine failure were injured. The microlight used in the tour for tourists had an engine failure some time after taking off from Paşabağı location. Pilot Şuayip Şen (53) and passenger Özgecan Doğan (28) were injured in the aircraft that made an emergency landing near Güvercinlik Valley between Göreme and Uçhisar towns.

After being informed, gendarmerie, health and AFAD teams were dispatched to the area. The injured pilot and passenger were taken to Nevşehir State Hospital by ambulance and received treatment. Serkan Şen, the company’s Flight Operations Manager, told reporters that the accident occurred when the microlight fell into a pit on the ground after an emergency landing. Noting that the injured pilot and passenger were in good health, Şen said: “While one of our passengers was flying, an engine failure was detected 10 minutes after take-off.

The pilot had to make a quick decision and follow the emergency landing rules and perform an emergency landing. While landing in an empty area of approximately 150 meters, he saw a hole at the last moment.” In order to avoid falling into this pit, he has to ventilate the aircraft again. Then, it slowly descends into the pit ahead safely. There is no problem with our passenger and pilot. Necessary procedures were implemented.” Şen added that the process is continuing with the General Directorate of Civil Aviation and other authorized institutions.
