MARDİN (AA) – Traffic enforcement was carried out by the Provincial Police Department teams in Mardin before Eid al-Adha. In line with the instructions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Directorate of Security and Mardin Governorship, traffic controls in the city have been tightened to ensure that citizens can travel in peace and safety during the holiday. In this context, in the inspections carried out in the province by the Provincial Police Department Traffic Inspection Branch Directorate teams, with the support of the City Safety Management System (KGYS) and drones, inspections were carried out against drivers who violated seat belts and lights, did not comply with intersection rules, did not give way to pedestrians, and used mobile phones while behind the wheel.
The teams that inspected the Mardin Intercity Bus Terminal informed bus drivers and passengers about the importance of seat belts and distributed brochures prepared in this context. On the other hand, alcohol simulation glasses prepared by TÜBİTAK were made available to drivers and company employees in the terminal to draw attention to the danger of drunk driving. The drivers tried to pass between the pontoons in the prepared area with the goggles they wore.
In addition, the teams working at the checkpoints warned the drivers of the vehicles they stopped about seat belts, mobile phone use and speed limits, and explained the negative effects of drunk driving on traffic safety. The teams congratulated the traveling drivers and passengers, offered candy and distributed informative brochures. Mardin Governor and Deputy Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tuncay Akkoyun, in his statement, asked all citizens to be careful while driving in traffic during the holiday.
Akkoyun, who warned drivers to comply with speed limits and not to use mobile phones while driving, emphasized the importance of wearing a seat belt during the journey. Akkoyun said, “Hopefully, this Eid, all our citizens will spend their holidays in peace and return home without experiencing any pain or sadness. For this, each of our citizens needs to pay attention. Please, let’s follow the traffic rules meticulously.” he said.
Mardin Traffic Registration and Inspection Branch Manager, Chief Inspector Salih Kürkçü, said that they took all precautions in the city. Stating that they continue to work in cooperation and coordination with stakeholder institutions to ensure that citizens spend their holidays in peace and safety and reach their destinations safely, Kürkçü said: “Within the scope of the traffic measures to be taken during the holiday, personnel from our other units have been reinforced to the traffic units, and a total of 846 teams, 110 motorized elements and 2 thousand 129 personnel have been added to the traffic units throughout the province, including 78 teams, 10 motorcycle elements and 196 personnel daily in the police responsibility area, during the 11-day holiday.” “In order to prevent speed-related accidents in our city, speed inspections are carried out with 5 mobile radar devices, 10 EDS (Electronic Control System) speed corridors and 7 PTS (Plate Recognition System) speed corridors.”
