NIAMEY (AA) – İBRAHİM YALDIZ – With the support of philanthropists who donated to the Turkish Religious Affairs Foundation, people were provided with access to clean water thanks to the wells opened in Niger under the leadership of the Niamey Religious Services Consultancy affiliated with the Presidency of Religious Affairs. Within the scope of the One Drop of Life Project, carried out with donations from Turkey, water wells opened especially in regions where access to clean water is difficult, contributed to meeting the daily water needs of thousands of people.

Thanks to the 50 water wells put into service in two years in rural areas of Niger, where water shortage is intense due to drought and inadequate infrastructure, people have access to clean drinking water, while the mosques built enable the local people to perform their prayers comfortably. Salih Şengezen, Niamey Religious Services Advisor of the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs, told the AA correspondent that they opened water wells and built mosques in different regions of Niger with the help of philanthropists who donated to the Turkish Religious Affairs Foundation.

Stating that they continue their work with the help of philanthropists, Şengezen said, “As activities of the Turkish Religious Foundation, we have opened 50 water wells and built 5 mosques in Niger in the last 2 years. More than 50 thousand of our Niger brothers benefit from these water wells and mosques. With these works carried out within the scope of the One Drop of Life Project of the Turkish Religious Foundation, we have a great opportunity to build a bridge of love between our Muslim brothers in Turkey and our Muslim brothers in Niger.

In this way, the bonds of brotherhood between us flourish.” he said. – “We have more than 15 water wells and 2-3 more mosque projects.” Expressing that they will continue to help each other as much as they can, live in unity and solidarity and strengthen the conversation, Şengezer said: “We can read the happiness of our brothers on their faces when we open a water well in Niger. They say, ‘We were traveling 7-8 kilometers to find water.’ After the water well, our Niger brothers tell us that they are very happy.

We may not be able to deliver water to their homes, but we do our best to alleviate some of the difficulties they face in reaching water. They thank and pray for us and our brothers who made this donation. We have more than 15 water wells and 2-3 mosque projects. If God allows, we will achieve them this year. In this way, we will continue to deliver our aid to our brothers in Niger.” Şengezen said, “Our Nigerian brothers were traveling for kilometers to reach water.

Thanks to the water wells we build, they have the opportunity to access clean water from a much closer distance. For this reason, they convey their prayers and express their satisfaction to our charitable brothers in Turkey.” he said. Ömer Ahmet from Niger, whose village had a masjid built, said: “I would like to thank the Turkish Religious Foundation for opening water wells and building masjids in our country. We were very happy about the wells and mosques that were opened and they also distribute sacrificial meat.

“I thank you for that.” he said. Stating that in addition to the construction of a masjid, a water well was opened near their village, Ömer Ahmet said, “After the masjid is opened in the village, our people can pray more comfortably, and we will be even happier if they build a water well next to (the masjid).” he said.
