Cyprus veteran Mehmet Özbek was sent off on his last journey in Sakarya

SAKARYA (AA) – A funeral ceremony was held in Hendek district of Sakarya, his hometown, for Cyprus veteran Mehmet Özbek, who died in the hospital where he was treated in Istanbul.

SAKARYA (AA) – A funeral ceremony was held in Hendek district of Sakarya, his hometown, for Cyprus veteran Mehmet Özbek, who died in the hospital where he was treated in Istanbul.

The body of Özbek, who died at the age of 73, wrapped in the Turkish flag, was brought to Hendek Merkez Grand Mosque on the shoulders of soldiers.

After receiving forgiveness and praying here, Özbek’s body was buried in the family cemetery in İkbaliye District.

Military personnel, veterans, headmen, representatives of political parties and non-governmental organizations and citizens attended the ceremony.
