While it was stated that a new process would be entered regarding the sale of alcohol, new prohibitions would also be brought to the agenda. Accordingly, in the bill submitted to the General Assembly of the Parliament, which provides regulations in many areas, it was noted that the rules for alcohol sales will be redefined. It is stated that with the regulation, sales points, promotion and inspection processes will also have a new structure.
In this context, it is envisaged to restrict encouraging elements in alcohol sales, to ban visual and written materials that encourage alcohol consumption in workplaces, and to eliminate some promotional activities. It is also stated that the supervision of sales restrictions applied at night will be further tightened and the authority in this context will be given to district governorships. It is stated that indirect advertising and promotions that evoke brand associations will also be comprehensively banned.
CONTROL MECHANISM WILL BE STRENGTHENED It is noted that the regulation in question also covers sales permits and document processes, and in this context, some conditions regarding the licensing and document renewal processes of businesses selling alcohol will be increased and inspections will be tightened. In this way, it is stated that the aim is to create a more systematic control mechanism in the sector. On the other hand, it is stated that the regulation is included in a comprehensive omnibus law that includes agriculture, property and trade, and therefore may affect not only alcohol sales but also other areas.
While it is stated that the bill that will be submitted to the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly consists of 29 articles and has been presented to the Parliament, it is noted that the regulation will indirectly affect many citizens. MAJOR RESTRICTIONS ARE COMING It is stated that with the regulation, serious restrictions will be imposed on advertising, sponsorship and visibility of alcohol products.
In this regard, it is stated that activities such as brands supporting events and promoting using names and logos will also be prohibited. On the other hand, experts state that the regulation in question was prepared to reduce the visibility areas that encourage alcohol consumption and strengthen control mechanisms, while some experts argue that the regulation contains provisions that interfere with individuals’ private lives and that this situation may violate personal rights.
