BURSA (AA) – BURCU İNANIR – EMİN ALPER – Müslüm Kahraman, who lives in the Orhaneli district of Bursa, has not given up his violin, which he started playing when he was a child, for 73 years. Kahraman, who was born in 1938 in the rural Dağgüney District of the district, started his musical career by playing the zurna at the age of 7 while herding animals. Kahraman, who later learned to play the violin when he was 15, worked as a musician at weddings for many years.
Kahraman, whose main profession is farming, contributes to the cultural values of the region with the folk songs he carries from past to present. Kahraman, who also composes his own folk songs and never leaves his violin, which he thinks is at least 120 years old, has been performing his art at home lately. – “I went to weddings in villages for 35 years.” Müslüm Kahraman told the AA correspondent that while he was making a living from farming, he also worked as a musician at weddings.
Stating that music has always been in his life, Kahraman said, “I started with the flute, then I bought a violin. I went to villages for weddings for 35 years. Since then, I still have the violin in my hand. We became like brothers.” he said. Kahraman stated that in the past, the zurna was mostly played at weddings and said, “We played the zurna a lot because the fine instrument was not played on the streets before. Weddings coincided with winter.
The fine instrument was not available outside. At that time, the emphasis was mostly on drums and pipes outside. We were playing small instruments and violins in the rooms. Then the clarinet came out. “Weddings have become a little more summer-like, and they are being played outside a lot.” he said. Stating that he worked in various jobs for many years but never left music out of his life, Kahraman emphasized that he has so many compositions that he does not know how many.
– Kahraman, who composed the events that took place in the region, explained that he put the events he experienced and witnessed into his compositions and continued as follows: “They engaged a girl from a village of Orhaneli to someone. Another girl from the village also had her eye on the same boy. The boy leaves the previous girl and takes the other girl. They give the girl he broke up with to the neighboring village.

They say, ‘The road to your village goes from here.’ At that time, there were mountains, forests and streams between the village roads. The girl was afraid to cross the stream. He took shelter in the hayloft and waited for the morning to come. He sang a folk song and cried in the haystack.
