On the highway, most of which is within the responsibility area of Burdur Provincial Gendarmerie Command, the teams warn drivers to be careful and obey the rules at the checkpoints they set up. Traffic 6th Team Commander Gendarmerie Petty Officer Senior Sergeant Ahmet Üretim, who works in the region, told the AA correspondent that the road has become a traffic corridor passing through major cities such as Antalya and Denizli.

Explaining that a significant increase in traffic density is expected with the opening of the holiday season, Üretim said, “The annual traffic volume in transit through Burdur reaches 14 million. “While the daily traffic volume on the Isparta-Antalya state highway, where the Kazak and Kargı tunnels are located, is 10 thousand, this number increases to 18 thousand during the holiday, as it is a tourism route and a connection point with the surrounding provinces.” he said.

Emphasizing that they have taken stricter measures in regions where accidents occur most frequently, Üretim stated that 47 percent of the traffic accidents in the region are automobiles, 23 percent motorcycles and 14 percent pickup trucks.

Reminding that 30 thousand 484 citizens were given training on general traffic information and traffic safety last year in order to inform and raise awareness of citizens about traffic rules, Üretim said that they distributed 14 thousand 490 materials during the trainings.

Üret stated that 20 thousand 180 citizens were given traffic safety training this year as well, and that the training continues, especially for young drivers and motorcycles, within the scope of the “Wear a reflective vest, be visible” and “I am safe with my helmet” projects in high schools, colleges and other areas where young people are present.
