ERZURUM (AA) – TALHA KOCA – The fugitive murder suspect, who was wanted for 10 years, was detected and caught with facial recognition cameras in Erzurum. Within the scope of the Provincial Police Department’s “Spotter Tracking Project”, cameras with facial recognition systems placed at many points throughout the city make it easier for the teams to catch the wanted people. The cameras in question compare snapshots with photos in the security forces’ database.
In case of a match, the system automatically sends a notification to the teams that the wanted person has been detected by the cameras. In this context, Faruk S. (45), who committed a murder in Muş in May 2016 and has been wanted since then, was detected by facial recognition system cameras in Kazım Karabekir Paşa District. After the notification of the smart cameras, the teams took action and caught Faruk S. Following his procedures at the police station, the suspect was examined at Erzurum City Hospital and sent to the courthouse, and was arrested by the judgeship.
