Due to the Separation Wall, nearly 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank cannot cross to occupied East Jerusalem and Israel. According to the Israel-based human rights organization B’Tselem, Jerusalem is surrounded by a concrete wall with barbed wire on it, with a height of more than 8 meters and a length of approximately 202 kilometers, most of which was built on West Bank lands.
While Israel claims that it built this wall for “security reasons”, the Palestinians and the United Nations state that it is part of the plan to annex Palestinian lands to Israel. Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank are trying to reach Jerusalem by crossing the “Separation Wall” near the Palestinian town of Ram, north of East Jerusalem, to find work, especially for economic reasons.
