STOCKHOLM (AA) – Turkish Cuisine Week, organized under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan, wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was celebrated with an event held in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, with the theme of Heritage at a Table. The event held at the residence of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm was attended by Türkiye’s Ambassador to Stockholm Oyun Can Tezel, Stockholm Communications Counselor Ahmet Emre Çetin, Stockholm Cultural Counselor Sibel Bağlı Biçer, Swedish social media influencers and gastronomy writers.
Ambassador Tezel, in his speech here, said: In our culture, the table is not just a place to eat. It is a meeting place where sharing, solidarity, friendship and memories occur. he said. At the event where flavors from Turkish cuisine were introduced, Chef Özlem Elvnas pointed out that Turkish cuisine is a treasure shaped by thousands of years of historical accumulation and the joint efforts of different civilizations.
Pointing out that Turkish culinary culture is a layered heritage formed by the intertwining of lifestyles, production practices, migration movements and rituals that have developed here over the centuries, Elvnas said: The traces left by different periods and social life practices still continue to live today in cooking techniques, material use, ritual tables and daily eating habits. This diversity, which extends from cooking methods such as oven, tandoor and sheet metal to the processing of basic products such as grains, grapes and olives, from fermented foods to ritual dishes, is a reflection of the tradition of learning, adapting and producing together.
11The water discharged from a height of 173 meters at the Karakaya Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant (HEPP) in Çüngüş district of Diyarbakır turned into a visual feast. The amount of water in the basin of Karakaya Dam and HEPP, Turkey’s third largest dam and second largest hydroelectric power plant, reached 9.5 billion cubic meters with heavy rainfall. In the Karakaya Dam and HEPP, which has an installed capacity of 1800 megawatts with a total of 6 units, 2 discharge gates of the dam were opened in the first place on May 11, after 7 years, against the risk of possible floods due to the water level approaching the maximum level.
The discharge of pressurized water from the dam set, whose body height is 173 meters, turned into a visual feast. Rainbows occasionally form in the region due to sunlight.
