ANKARA (AA) – The visitor reception center and holistic landscaping projects carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism at the Karahantepe Ruins in the Haliliye district of Şanlıurfa have come to an end. According to the statement made by the Ministry, it is aimed to protect the area and strengthen scientific activities in Karahantepe in line with the “Heritage to the Future” vision. Within the scope of the project, a 2 thousand square meter excavation and research house, a 150 square meter artifact storage and a 35 square meter water tank are being built in the area.
The application of a cover (protection roof) continues in order to protect the archaeological finds and to carry out the excavation activities more healthily. Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy thanked those who contributed to the process with his post on his social media account. Ersoy noted the following in his post: “We continue our work with determination in line with our vision of Heritage to the Future in Şanlıurfa Karahantepe.
Within the scope of landscaping and cover construction of the ruins, we are carrying out an important process that will protect the area and strengthen scientific studies, together with the excavation and research house, find storage and infrastructure structures. We are about to complete our visitor reception center and holistic landscaping projects. “We will start implementing it in 2026 and carry Karahantepe into the future in a stronger way.” – It is planned to be implemented in 2026.
The process for landscaping and top cover construction in Karahantepe started in 2024. The implementation work of the project, whose tender and contract was made in October of the same year, continues. The visitor reception center and holistic landscaping projects, which are nearing completion, are planned to be implemented in 2026. Studies in the region were carried out by Prof. on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Istanbul University.
